Premier League Summer Transfers: Arsenal, Chelsea, and More

The Premier League’s heavyweights are deep into their summer surgery now, and the market is starting to feel it. Big names, bigger fees, and some very bold ideas are being thrown on the table.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all moving pieces as the new season creeps into view, and the noise around Europe’s elite is only getting louder.

Arsenal’s ambitious shuffle

Arsenal have already put one deal in the bank, confirming the arrival of Christos Tzolis, but that looks like only the warm-up act.

The headline move is their intent to launch a £70million bid for Bruno Guimaraes after agreeing personal terms with Newcastle’s captain. It is a statement play for the heart of their midfield and a direct raid on a Premier League rival who have built their side around the Brazilian.

Arsenal’s recruitment drive does not stop there. They have stepped into the race for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, a player long thought to be heading for Paris, and are also keen on strengthening at the back. Ezri Konsa, John Stones and Jacobo Ramon are all on their radar as they look to add depth and composure to a defence that powered last season’s title win.

The most eye-catching idea, though, belongs in attack. Arsenal are weighing up using Viktor Gyokeres in a swap deal for Julian Alvarez. According to The Times, the Gunners are prepared to put last summer’s signing into a player-plus-cash offer for the Argentine forward. Gyokeres scored 21 goals in 55 games in his debut season and helped deliver the Premier League title. Moving him on after a year would be ruthless. It would also underline how badly Arsenal want Alvarez.

Chelsea close on Lacroix and move for staff

Across London, Chelsea’s rebuild continues at pace and in every department.

On the pitch, they are closing in on Maxence Lacroix. The Crystal Palace centre-back has completed a medical in London, with a £52m fee agreed. Standard Sport understands the deal was expected to be finalised on Friday. Lacroix has been away on international duty at the World Cup with France, and Chelsea are betting heavily that he can anchor their defence for years.

They are not done in the market. The club want to bring in Kerim Alajbegovic and Alex Scott after already securing Morgan Rogers, as they keep loading up on young, technically gifted options.

Off the pitch, there is movement too. Austin MacPhee has left Aston Villa and is set to join Chelsea, with the set-piece specialist also attracting interest from Saudi Arabia. Under his watch, Villa scored 29 goals from set plays last season. Chelsea are gambling that his detail and drills can turn dead balls into a reliable source of points.

Manchester United shut down Bruno talk

At Old Trafford, one rumour has been swiftly put to bed.

Despite links to a shock move to Galatasaray and with only 12 months left on his current deal – plus a club option for an extra year – Manchester United are not entertaining the idea of selling Bruno Fernandes this summer. TEAMtalk report that the captain is going nowhere.

United’s attention is instead on reshaping their midfield. Aurelien Tchouameni remains a major target, with the club encouraged in their pursuit. Real Madrid team-mate Eduardo Camavinga is also on their radar, alongside Carlos Baleba, Manu Kone, Sander Berge, Danilo and Tyler Adams. United know their engine room has lagged behind the division’s best. They are casting the net wide to fix it.

Liverpool and the Diomande opening

Liverpool are active again, and an unexpected twist in Paris has given them a sliver of hope.

Yan Diomande has long been seen as a future Paris Saint-Germain signing, with the Leipzig winger understood to have set his heart on a move to the French and European champions and personal terms said to be in place. But PSG have yet to lodge the €120m (£102m) bid required to meet Leipzig’s valuation.

That hesitation has not gone unnoticed. Bild report that the lack of a formal offer has opened the door for Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City. Liverpool, already working on a deal for Maghnes Akliouche and also targeting Bradley Barcola and Rayan, suddenly have a clearer shot at one of Europe’s most coveted wide men.

Spurs braced for Romero exit as Inter circle

Tottenham, too, are facing a pivotal defensive decision.

Inter Milan have made contact with Cristian Romero’s camp and are ready to offer around £34m for the centre-back. The player is open to the move, and his agent has travelled to Milan to try to seal an agreement. That is not background noise. That is a live negotiation.

Spurs are already planning for life after Romero. They are eyeing Andreas Schjelderup and Rafael Leao, a pair of forwards who would inject flair and unpredictability into Ange Postecoglou’s attack. Losing Romero would rip out a key piece of their back line. How they reinvest that fee could define their season.

West Ham dig in after cashing out

Relegation has forced West Ham into a brutal summer, but they have done their selling early and hard.

After raising almost £150m through the departures of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville, the club have drawn a line in the sand. Brentford have seen a bid for El Hadji Malick Diouf rejected, with West Ham issuing a firm not-for-sale message over the 21-year-old left-back. Whether Brentford test that stance with an improved offer remains to be seen, but West Ham’s position is clear: the fire sale is over, and they want to keep the core of their squad together.

Not every outgoing is proving so simple. The club are struggling to find a buyer for Jean-Clair Todibo. The French defender carries a reputation for poor attitude and disciplinary issues, and West Ham are reportedly willing to accept as little as £15m. Even at that price, there has been no concrete interest.

Real Madrid test City’s resolve over Rodri

One of the summer’s most audacious moves is brewing in Spain.

Rodri wants to leave Manchester City, and Real Madrid are preparing a bid. Fresh from captaining Spain to a second World Cup title and winning the Golden Ball, the midfielder has never been more influential. Those performances have pushed Real into action.

The Athletic report that Real are confident an agreement can be reached for the 30-year-old. If City’s midfield metronome really does move to the Bernabeu, it would shake the foundations of both clubs – and send a warning shot across Europe.

The window is still open, the money is still moving, and the biggest questions – Rodri’s future, Arsenal’s pursuit of Guimaraes and Alvarez, Romero’s next step – are nowhere near settled.
