Napoli Faces Injury Crisis with Spinazzola Out for Fiorentina Match

Napoli’s growing injury list has claimed another key name. Leonardo Spinazzola will not travel to Florence after suffering a mild strain in the hamstring of his right thigh.

The club confirmed on Friday that the full-back did not train with the rest of the squad, with tests revealing the muscle problem. The issue, described as a mild strain, is still serious enough to rule the Italy international out of Sunday’s lunchtime clash away to Fiorentina (12:30 CET, 11:30 BST).

Reports from Il Mattino and Sky align with the club’s update: Spinazzola will not be available for the match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, stripping Napoli of experience and balance on the left flank at a delicate point in their season.

The bad news does not stop there.

Napoli also announced that Frank Zambo Anguissa continues to work separately from the group. With the midfielder still on an individual programme, his chances of featuring in Florence are extremely slim.

  • Alessandro Buongiorno
  • Luca Marianucci
  • Scott McTominay
  • Giovane
  • Alex Meret
  • Alisson Santos

are all ruled out as well, leaving the Partenopei short-handed across several areas of the pitch for a fixture that rarely offers any comfort.

Napoli head into the game on the back of a much-needed lift: a 1-0 win over Bologna at the Stadio Maradona last weekend, which snapped a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions. That victory steadied nerves.

Now they have to prove it was more than a brief pause in the storm, and they must do it in Florence without Spinazzola and a raft of important names.
