Mykhailo Mudryk Cleared to Return to Football After Doping Ban

Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to return to football immediately after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) cut short his four-year doping ban, drawing a dramatic line under one of the most uncomfortable chapters of his career.

The Chelsea winger, 25, has been sidelined since November 2024. A month later, a provisional suspension landed after he produced an “adverse finding” for meldonium, a substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned list. The Football Association then imposed the harshest sanction available: a full four-year ban.

Mudryk fought it. He took his case to CAS, and the verdict has now swung decisively in his favour.

The court confirmed that Mudryk accepted he had broken anti-doping regulations, but ruled that the punishment should be limited to the time he has already spent out of the game. In practical terms, that means his suspension is considered served. He can play again “with immediate effect”.

For Chelsea, it is a sudden change of landscape. A player effectively written out of medium-term plans is now back in the selection frame overnight. For Mudryk, whose career had been shoved into cold storage at 25, it is a lifeline.

The stigma of a doping offence will not vanish quickly, and the questions will follow him into every stadium he walks into next. Yet the legal battle is over. The winger who once arrived at Stamford Bridge as a symbol of Chelsea’s new era now has something simpler in front of him: the chance to step back onto the pitch and prove he still belongs at the top level.
