Milan Targets Breel Embolo as Striker Solution

AC Milan have turned their attention to Breel Embolo as they search for fresh firepower in attack, but they are walking into a crowded race for the Switzerland international.

Rennes’ powerful forward has emerged as the latest idea for Rúben Amorim’s frontline, with Milan opening initial talks with the player’s agent to understand both the feasibility and the cost of a deal, according to calciomercato.com. No offer, no formal move, just the first probing questions that usually precede a serious push.

Rennes are in a strong position. Embolo is under contract until 2029 and the Ligue 1 club value him at around €15m. That price tag, in today’s market, makes him even more attractive. So does his profile: a World Cup standout, still in his prime years, and crucially, a player who has already indicated he would welcome a return to Italy.

He will not be waiting by the phone for just one club.

Napoli, now under Massimiliano Allegri, also have Embolo on their shortlist. Bournemouth are tracking him as well, and the Premier League is thought to be a destination the striker would gladly explore. Serie A’s interest is nothing new either; Juventus and Roma have monitored him before, a sign of how long his name has been circulating among Italy’s top sporting directors.

For Milan and Napoli, though, the path to Embolo runs through their own dressing rooms. Someone has to leave before someone else can arrive.

Milan have yet to receive an offer they consider acceptable for Rafael Leão. The club want €50m for the Portuguese forward, and until a bid hits that mark, they are under no pressure to sell. Without a significant outgoing, moving decisively for Embolo becomes more complicated.

Napoli face a similar puzzle, but with a different name. Giovanni Manna, their sporting director, is working to find a new club for Romelu Lukaku. Only when that situation is resolved can Allegri’s side think seriously about reshaping their attack and entering the Embolo race with conviction.

There is, however, another lever Milan could pull.

Santiago Giménez is among the players who could depart, and his exit would change the picture entirely. If the Mexican striker leaves, the Rossoneri could choose to accelerate their pursuit of Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão. One departure in the forward line might be enough to trigger a move.

For now, Embolo to Milan remains an idea rather than a negotiation. But it is the kind of idea that can gather speed quickly once the first big sale goes through and the attacking dominoes finally start to fall.
