Marc Guiu Set to Join RB Leipzig from Chelsea

Chelsea have given the green light for striker Marc Guiu to leave Stamford Bridge permanently and join RB Leipzig, with the Spanish youngster closing in on a move to the Bundesliga club.

The 20-year-old is expected to sign for Leipzig, though voices in Germany are stressing that final details still need to be ironed out before the transfer is officially sealed. The fee remains largely under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m – a sharp rise on the figure Chelsea paid to bring him in.

Chelsea snapped up the Spain Under-21 forward from his boyhood club Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m, a low-risk punt on a raw but highly rated finisher. A year on, his time in west London is already coming to an end.

Guiu’s Chelsea career never fully settled. He made 29 appearances in total, scoring eight times, but his most telling contributions came in Europe. Six of those goals arrived during Chelsea’s Conference League-winning campaign in 2024-25, where he carved out a niche as a useful weapon in continental competition.

Domestically, his opportunities were more limited. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season brought just three matches and no real momentum. By the summer, the writing was on the wall.

Guiu trained away from the main first-team group in pre-season, a clear signal that the club were preparing for his departure and that his future lay elsewhere. Leipzig, with their track record of polishing young attacking talent, have moved to take advantage.

Chelsea’s squad manoeuvring has not stopped there. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan stint at River Plate, the Ecuadorian teenager cutting short his time in Argentina to free up an overseas loan slot. He is now expected to head back out again, this time likely within England, as Chelsea continue to juggle development plans with the hard limits of their loan structure.
