Manchester United Signs Liverpool Youngster Isaac Konde
Manchester United have moved to snatch highly rated Liverpool youngster Isaac Konde, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a deal is now complete.
The move drops another twist into a summer that has quietly become an arms race at academy level. While headline signings dominated the back pages, Premier League clubs were just as aggressive behind the scenes, raiding each other’s youth systems for the next big thing.
United have been among the most active. They lured David Eze and Karim Cassim across town from Manchester City and brought in Tynan Thompson from Tottenham. Now they have gone straight into rival territory again, targeting Liverpool’s production line.
Konde, just 16, has not yet had a taste of senior football at Anfield, but he did make six appearances for Liverpool’s under-18s last season. That exposure at such a young age has already marked him out as one to watch inside academy circles.
His appeal is obvious. Konde can operate across several roles, including in the forward line, and that versatility gives coaches room to shape him. Liverpool, by all accounts, wanted to keep him. Manchester United have instead convinced him that his future lies at Old Trafford.
This is exactly the sort of deal top clubs now hunt relentlessly. Move early, take a teenager before he hits his ceiling, and the financial risk is minimal. If a contract is running down, the fee is small or even non-existent. Even when a payment is required to prise a player away, it rarely comes close to what that talent might be worth if everything clicks in three or four years’ time.
United have embraced that model. They have made a habit of poaching from other academies, betting that their infrastructure and pathway can turn raw prospects into first‑team assets or valuable saleable players.
Liverpool academy specialist Lewis Bower shed light on the situation earlier in the summer, when Konde was first linked with United. He revealed that Liverpool had put a scholarship offer on the table. Konde has chosen to turn that down and head to Manchester instead.
Bower’s insight into the youngster has already started to filter through to United supporters looking for clues about what kind of player is arriving. For now, Konde is another name in a long list of teenagers changing badges in search of a clearer route to the top.
