Lukas Hornicek Joins Newcastle United: A New Era Begins

Lukas Hornicek arrived in the Premier League sounding like a man who already understands the scale of what he has walked into.

The towering 198cm goalkeeper has completed his move to Newcastle United and, speaking to the club’s official channels, made no attempt to hide how turbulent the last few days have been for him.

“The last few days have been an emotional rollercoaster from when I first heard about the move and now I'm so happy to be here,” he said, the sense of release evident in every word.

For Hornicek, this is not just a transfer. It is a leap into one of the most unforgiving, high‑profile stages in world football. He knows it.

“It's a brilliant opportunity in a new league, which I'm very excited about,” he continued. “From the very first moment I arrived here, I received a fantastic welcome and really felt the warmth of the club. Everyone has been brilliant in helping me settle in.”

That warmth has been earned by others before him, but the club clearly believes he is equipped to handle the heat. Hornicek’s reputation surged last season after a standout Europa League campaign, where he kept seven clean sheets and announced himself as one of the most reliable young goalkeepers on the continent. Those performances forced Newcastle’s recruitment team to move quickly.

Sporting director Ross Wilson did not play down the scale of the signing.

“He has firmly established himself as one of Europe's top young goalkeepers,” Wilson said. “We knew there would be no shortage of clubs interested in acquiring Lukas this summer after everything he achieved last season, but it quickly became evident how keen he was to be a part of what we are building here.”
