Pre-season friendlies rarely tell the whole story, but they can send a message. On Wednesday, that message from Atlético Madrid was clear: Ademola Lookman wants a central role in Diego Simeone’s new campaign.
The Nigerian forward struck twice inside the first half of a 4-1 win over a makeshift Getafe side, lighting up an otherwise gentle opening to Atlético’s summer.
Lookman wastes no time
From the first whistle, Lookman played as if this were a league fixture rather than a tune-up. Sharp in his movement, direct when he saw space, he quickly became the reference point of Atlético’s attack.
