Liverpool's Summer Transfer Buzz: Rumors and Moves

Liverpool’s summer is starting to sound like a remix: new names, familiar themes, and a transfer market that refuses to sit still.

A Georgian teenager puts himself in the shop window

The latest spark came from Georgia. Andria Bartishvili, an attacking midfielder contracted to Kolkheti Poti and on loan at Iberia 1999, nudged himself into the rumor mill with a single tap on his phone.

A social media account tracking Georgian players claimed the teenager has no agreement with Arsenal and could yet end up at Liverpool or Paris FC. Bartishvili promptly shared that post on his Instagram story. No words. No statement. Just a repost that poured petrol on a flickering rumor and told Europe’s scouts he knows exactly who is watching.

Wilson heads for Elland Road

One former Liverpool player is on the move. Harry Wilson, now a free agent after leaving Fulham, is closing in on a switch to Leeds United.

Interest surfaced from several clubs after a strong season from the Wales international, but Leeds has pushed hardest. Barring a late twist, Elland Road will be his next stage.

Musiala and Wirtz light it up for Germany

On the international scene, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has been revelling in his partnership with Liverpool star Florian Wirtz for Germany under Julian Nagelsmann.

“I’m really enjoying it,” Musiala told GFNG. “I think Flo and I play really well together.

“The whole team is in great form. No matter which position I play, I can combine with anyone. But it’s true: Flo and I harmonize very well on the field.

“It’s simply fun to have this relaxed feel and free atmosphere on the pitch. We want to show what we’re capable of at this tournament. I push myself every day for that.

“But what I’ve learned in the meantime is to remain patient. I know that, especially after my injury, I have to be patient.

“But I also know that I have the quality to achieve the high goals I’ve set for myself one day. I’m not putting any pressure on myself.”

For Liverpool, every Wirtz performance in that shirt only underlines the calibre of player now driving their own midfield.

Bouaddi on the radar

The recruitment department at Anfield is not resting. Ayyoub Bouaddi, the Lille youngster, has been under close surveillance.

Speaking on Born and Red’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano revealed Liverpool has already met the player’s camp twice.

“Liverpool had two meetings and there are more clubs involved in that [than just PSG and Arsenal], so could be an opportunity to go for him,” Romano said. “It depends on price, it depends on what Lille want to do, but Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time.

“It has been almost one year monitoring the player closely. Let’s see if they enter this one. I think it could be interesting, not just for Liverpool but for other clubs.”

A year of monitoring suggests this is more than a passing glance.

Gakpo’s future on a knife-edge

Not everyone is guaranteed a long-term role in Andoni Iraola’s project. Cody Gakpo’s position looks increasingly delicate.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool would be prepared to accept a substantial offer for the Dutch forward this summer. His second season under Arne Slot fell short of the heights of his first, when he scored 18 goals, and yet he only signed a new contract a year ago. Any bid will have to be serious to test Liverpool’s resolve, but the door is not locked.

Curtis Jones: wanted, but not available on the cheap

Curtis Jones, by contrast, remains firmly in the plans. The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele reports that Liverpool is preparing for next season with the academy graduate at the heart of Iraola’s squad.

Inter Milan has already seen two bids rejected, the latest worth $29m. Liverpool’s valuation sits around $47m, and the club is said to have been irritated by the Italian side’s approach. Steele suggests the dialogue is not entirely dead, but the working assumption on Merseyside is clear: Jones stays.

Diomande: the saga that won’t go away

The big storyline, though, is Yan Diomande.

Steele insists the 19-year-old “definitely” wants to move this summer and that there is frustration in the player’s camp over how long the process is taking. A quick deal was expected; now the mood has shifted towards a drawn-out chase, potentially stretching beyond the World Cup.

RB Leipzig is holding firm at a $148m (€130m) valuation. The Athletic reports that the German club would consider a higher bid above that figure, having already rejected Liverpool’s opening offer of around $115m (€100m). Diomande remains Liverpool’s primary target, and Steele is adamant the Reds will eventually get it done: “I really do, I do think this one will happen.”

France is telling the same story in a different tone. MediaFoot claims Paris Saint-Germain has “thrown in the towel,” with Luis Campos said to have spoken to both Leipzig and Diomande before walking away from the deal. The asking price is reported to be beyond PSG’s budget, with the Ligue 1 champions unwilling to enter a bidding war.

The same report suggests Liverpool has reached an agreement with Diomande’s representatives. One major hurdle remains: finding a number Leipzig will accept.

Alternatives and a brewing rivalry with Newcastle

Liverpool cannot afford to be caught cold if Leipzig refuses to budge. The Athletic says a list of alternatives is already in place, including Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Cologne’s Said El Mala.

Newcastle United is circling some of the same names. The Magpies are tracking El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, both identified as potential options if Diomande proves unattainable. After Liverpool hijacked Newcastle’s move for Victor Munoz last week, the Tyneside club will not need extra motivation to beat the Reds to a target.

Barcola opportunity as PSG stalls

There may also be an opening on the wing. Romano reports that negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Bradley Barcola are “completely on standby.”

That pause has alerted Liverpool and Arsenal, both of whom have the French international on their shortlists. Liverpool has been following Barcola closely for over a year and previously shortlisted him. Romano describes the situation as “absolutely open,” dependent on PSG’s next move.

Palestra slips away

Not every door stays open. Marco Palestra, the Atalanta full-back, was offered to Liverpool before Chelsea moved decisively.

Ben Jacobs reports that both Liverpool and Arsenal were sounded out as a Premier League move was explored. Chelsea then stepped in, hijacking Inter Milan’s attempt to sign the 21-year-old with a $57m (€50m) deal, and Palestra is now set to join the Blues.

Midfield market: Fernandes priced high

Liverpool has also been doing its homework on West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. Romano told Born ‘N Red that the club contacted West Ham two weeks ago to clarify the midfielder’s situation, asking about price and conditions.

No bid followed. No formal talks either. The reason is clear enough: Fernandes is expected to cost more than $112m (£85m), a fee that comes close to Liverpool’s offer for Diomande. Manchester United and Tottenham are described as “busy” with the deal, while Liverpool weighs whether that level of investment makes sense.

Youth movement: loans and a long view

While the first team dominates headlines, the club is quietly reshaping its next generation.

The Athletic reports that seven youngsters are set for loan moves. Trey Nyoni is under consideration, though a final decision will come later in the summer. Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi, defenders Luke Chambers and Amara Nallo, midfielder James McConnell and winger Kieran Morrison are all expected to head out for regular football.

Owen Beck will remain at Liverpool as he recovers from injury. New signing Ifeanyi Ndukwe, who officially joins this summer after a January agreement, is also likely to go straight out on loan despite not yet playing for the club. It is a clear pattern: develop elsewhere, return ready.

Heskey’s verdict on Diomande

One former Liverpool striker sees the Diomande pursuit as more than just another big-money swing. Emile Heskey believes the Leipzig forward could be the perfect replacement for Luis Diaz, who left for Bayern Munich a year ago.

“He’s a very, very attractive player,” Heskey told Liverpool.com on behalf of OLBG. “We’ve been missing that. We were so blessed on the wings — we had Mo and Mane for many years.

“Then Mane left and Diaz came, and Diaz not only gave you what he gave you on the wing, he went up front as well and gave you something different.

“Since Diaz, we haven’t really had that winger who can do that, and Diomande looks like he could be it. And let’s not just look at what he does going forward — he tracks back and works hard.

“He’s super quick and direct, which is exactly what we need and what we’ve been missing.”

Between a teenager in Georgia sharing rumors on Instagram, a £100m-plus saga in Leipzig, and a queue of academy prospects heading out to learn their trade, Liverpool’s summer is already crackling. The only question now is which of these threads will define the next era at Anfield.
