Liverpool Sign Djylian N’Guessan for 2027
Liverpool have moved for the future again – and this time the name is Djylian N’Guessan.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark “here we go” on a deal for the Saint-Etienne forward, with Liverpool striking an agreement to bring the 18-year-old to Anfield in the summer of 2027.
Liverpool lock in N’Guessan for 2027
The move comes in the frantic final hours of the window, with Liverpool still active on multiple fronts. Bradley Barcola is set to arrive from Paris Saint-Germain after completing his medical on Sunday, but the club have now also tied up a long-term attacking project.
N’Guessan, who can operate off the flanks or through the middle, has been on Saint-Etienne’s books with a contract running to 2027. French outlet Foot Mercato reported that ASSE were open to selling their “young star”, with journalist Santi Aouna revealing on X that negotiations with Liverpool had reached an advanced stage and only “last details” remained.
Aouna wrote that Saint-Etienne were in talks with Liverpool over a permanent transfer, with the Premier League side viewing N’Guessan as a major prospect. The race was against the clock: “There are only a few hours left to finalize the deal… or not,” Foot Mercato reported.
The answer came swiftly. Romano later confirmed that an agreement is in place: Liverpool will sign N’Guessan from Saint-Etienne, with the striker to stay in France for another season before joining the Reds in 2027. He added that Liverpool had already secured authorization for the player’s medical and that the move “follows Lucca Brughmans deal as another one for future”.
Liverpool’s recruitment department has made a habit of this kind of planning – investing in the next wave while the current squad fights on all fronts. N’Guessan is the latest bet on tomorrow.
Gakpo, City and the Sarr domino
Behind that forward planning sits a far more immediate question: Cody Gakpo.
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Gakpo has reached an agreement on personal terms with Manchester City. City have sent an £85m bid to Liverpool. The key line? Liverpool will only accept if they secure a right winger before the deadline. No winger, no sale.
That stance has turned the spotlight on Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.
Romano says Sarr is currently ahead of Yankuba Minteh on Liverpool’s list. Liverpool already tested Palace’s resolve earlier in the week with a formal offer worth £45m plus £5m in add-ons – a £50m package. Palace rejected it and, according to Romano, are still saying no to a sale.
Palace are at least sounding out potential replacements in case the right proposal lands. Sarr, for his part, wants the move. He wants Liverpool. The clubs, not the player, are the obstacle.
Romano insists there was “100%” a written bid from Liverpool, despite initial denials around the deal. Now, with the story out in the open, Sarr’s situation has become one of the late-window flashpoints.
Liverpool, he adds, are being offered wingers “every minute” as agents and clubs sense the opportunity. Everyone knows the Reds need another wide option. Everyone knows Gakpo’s future hangs on it.
So Liverpool have N’Guessan lined up for 2027, Barcola incoming now, and Sarr at the centre of a high-stakes tug of war. If the right winger walks through the door in time, Gakpo could be heading to the Etihad for £85m. If not, the Dutchman stays and another twist in this window will have to wait.
