Liverpool's Pursuit of Ajax Winger Mika Godts Intensifies
Liverpool’s winger hunt is far from over. Even after prising Victor Munoz from Osasuna, Andoni Iraola wants another left-sided threat, another runner to stretch games and twist full-backs inside out.
They have already shown their teeth in this market. Newcastle United thought they were in control of the race for Munoz, only to see Liverpool sweep in and close a £35 million deal for the 22-year-old. At the same time, the club were strongly linked with an £86 million move for RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, a statement signing in the making. That one is slipping away, with the in-demand attacker now heading towards Real Madrid.
So Liverpool pivot. Quickly.
And their new focus may again put them on a collision course with Premier League rivals.
Liverpool join crowded chase for Ajax livewire
In Amsterdam, Mika Godts has been playing like a man determined to outgrow his surroundings. Last season, the Ajax winger produced the kind of numbers that make recruitment departments sit up: 17 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances. Not just promise. End product.
He has not eased off. Ajax have opened their 2026/27 campaign in ruthless mood, winning both UEFA Conference League qualifying legs against Vojvodina 4-1, and Godts has supplied an assist in each game. Same energy, same influence, bigger spotlight.
That form has dragged his name into boardrooms across Europe. Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been linked, each club seeing a 21-year-old with pace, incision and a ceiling that still looks distant.
Now Liverpool are in that conversation. TEAMtalk lists the Merseyside club among the serious suitors, and timing suddenly matters. Over the weekend, clubs chasing Godts were warned: Paris Saint-Germain have accelerated.
PSG make their move
PSG, having already missed out on Diomande, are not waiting around this time. The French champions have held what are described as “positive discussions” over Godts, with football advisor Luis Campos pushing hard. He sees a winger who can be shaped into a long-term piece of Luis Enrique’s attack at the Parc des Princes.
Godts is understood to be open to Ligue 1. He also knows what PSG means for a young attacker: fierce competition for minutes, a dressing room stacked with talent, and no guarantee of walking straight into the starting XI.
Ajax value him at around £51 million. It is a bold price for a player yet to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues, but compared to the £86 million figures attached to Diomande, he represents a cheaper swing at stardom.
Ajax, for their part, are not hiding the situation. Technical director Jordi Cruyff has already gone public: “Godts will leave,” he said, stressing it will only happen “at the right time and for the right price.”
The right time may be fast approaching. The right price is on the table.
Now the question is simple: do Liverpool, fresh from one hijack and bruised by another near-miss, step in again and drag Godts towards Anfield, or does this one end with another young star walking out to the lights of Paris?
