Liverpool's €120m Bid for Barcola as Salah Successor
Liverpool have finally shown their hand in the summer market – and it is a huge one. The club have submitted an offer worth €120m for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as they move aggressively to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah.
The bid, reported by journalist Achille Ashe, stands at €105m plus €15m in bonuses. If PSG accept, it would mark a record sale for the French champions and a statement of intent from a Liverpool side that has watched others move early while they stayed largely on the fringes of the window.
A slow summer, a brutal exodus
Up to now, Liverpool’s business has been modest. Deals for Osasuna’s Victor Munoz and Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet have done little to calm concerns among supporters watching key figures walk away.
Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Salah have all departed on free transfers. That is experience, leadership and star power stripped from a dressing room in a matter of weeks. The gaping hole, though, is on the right of the attack, where Salah’s goals and gravity shaped Liverpool’s identity for years.
Yan Diomande was initially earmarked as the man to lead the next era. RB Leipzig’s forward opened the summer as Liverpool’s primary attacking target. But Real Madrid moved in, and Diomande is now set for Spain, forcing Liverpool to pivot – quickly and decisively.
Barcola moves to the top of the list
That pivot has landed firmly on Bradley Barcola. The 21-year-old France international has emerged as Liverpool’s leading target, and the club have already made progress on the player side of the deal.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reported on Monday that Liverpool had reached an “agreement in principle” over personal terms with Barcola, with a contract proposed through to 2032 and a “top salary” on the table. That set the stage for the next, more complicated phase: dealing with PSG.
Ben Jacobs later outlined the scale of that challenge. PSG’s starting price was set at a staggering €170m, a figure Liverpool regard as “inflated and unrealistic.” The French club’s stance has been shaped by a wild market, with deals such as Elliot Anderson at £116m and Morgan Rogers at £117m used as reference points.
Liverpool, though, have made it clear they will not pay double the fee PSG were looking for last summer, when Barcola was valued at around €85m.
Tension over valuation
The pressure has now moved squarely onto PSG’s decision-makers. Liverpool’s €120m package falls well short of the initial €170m demand, but it is edging closer to a territory that is hard to ignore, especially given the wider context.
Barcola has two years left on his contract and, crucially, no desire to sign an extension. Inside Liverpool, the belief is that if a deal is not struck in this window, PSG risk watching his value fall sharply by 2027, when he could leave for far less.
That dynamic gives Liverpool leverage. They are not in a bidding war, Barcola wants out, and the Premier League club are prepared to go to a record-breaking level – but on their terms.
Negotiations are described as “ongoing,” with PSG currently reviewing the offer. The feeling, as Ashe put it, is that the departure of the French international is “becoming more and more likely.”
A defining call for Liverpool’s rebuild
For Liverpool, this is more than a marquee signing. It is a test of how quickly they can rebuild an attack that has lost one of the greatest forwards in Premier League history.
They have already explored alternatives, including interest in an Everton star, but Barcola is the man at the top of the list. He brings pace, one-on-one threat and the kind of profile that can be moulded into a long-term pillar of the side.
Now it comes down to PSG’s answer. Accept, and Liverpool land their Salah heir in one of the window’s biggest moves. Refuse, and both clubs face a very different set of questions about value, timing and ambition as the clock keeps ticking on Barcola’s contract – and on Liverpool’s new era.
