Lionel Messi needed just one word to cut through a week’s worth of noise.
Stopped in the mixed zone ahead of Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup match, the Argentina captain was asked by journalist Bruno Vain about the future of his eldest son, Thiago, and the swirl of rumours linking the teenager with a move to Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.

“No,” Messi replied.

Thiago previously spent three years at Barca Escola, from 2016 to 2019, before following his father’s career path to Paris and joining Paris Saint-Germain’s youth setup.
