Lamine Camara Focused on Monaco After Chelsea Transfer Collapse

Lamine Camara insists he has “turned the page” on a dramatic late collapse of his big-money move to Chelsea and is now locking in on Monaco’s Ligue 1 campaign.

The 22-year-old midfielder had completed his medical ahead of a proposed £47.1m switch to Stamford Bridge, only for the transfer to fall apart in the final moments of the window. What looked like a career‑defining move vanished in a flurry of late calls and changing conditions.

Two Chelsea bids had already been knocked back earlier in the summer. As the deadline loomed, Monaco softened their stance and lowered the asking price during a chaotic final stretch, when Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton suddenly appeared in jeopardy. At that stage, Camara’s exit looked more likely than at any point in the window.

Then the picture flipped again. Once Balogun’s transfer to Goodison Park seemed back on track, Monaco appeared to cool on the idea of losing Camara as well. In the end, the Ligue 1 club kept both players.

“There was a possibility I could leave,” Camara said ahead of Monaco’s clash with Strasbourg on Saturday. “It didn’t go through at the last minute and that’s part of football. I’ve turned the page and am focusing on the season.”

Sources in France had indicated Monaco needed at least one major sale this summer and were more inclined to cash in on Balogun. Inside the club, the message around Camara had been consistent: it would take a “substantial fee” to prise the Senegal international away.

On the pitch, Monaco have started like a side unbothered by the noise. Three wins from three league games put them second behind Rennes, with a game in hand heading into the weekend. Camara expects to play a central role in keeping that momentum.

“I can help the team a lot,” he said. “Football moves fast. Maybe other opportunities will come along. But for now, I’m staying focused on the season with Monaco.”

The transfer window has closed. The speculation hasn’t. For Camara, though, the message is clear: the next chapter will be written in red and white, at least for now.
