Jordan Ayew Set for Sheffield United Debut Against Wolves

Jordan Ayew is in line for his Sheffield United debut on Sunday, with Chris Wilder ready to throw the new signing straight into the Premier League fight against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Ghana forward, snapped up as a free agent on Tuesday, went straight into the matchday squad that evening against Blackburn Rovers, taking a seat on the bench as he began life at Bramall Lane. Now, with Wolves arriving for a 12:00 BST kick-off, Wilder has made it clear Ayew will not just be watching.

“One of the attractions of signing Jordan, not just the level of his experience, his availability record is just incredible,” Wilder said. “We are delighted physically where he's at and he will definitely be involved.”

That availability matters. Sheffield United’s squad is stretched, and Wilder is juggling minutes as much as tactics.

Hamza Choudhury felt that reality in midweek. The Bangladesh international midfielder was withdrawn after 58 minutes against Blackburn, a change Wilder put down to fatigue rather than fresh injury. Under normal circumstances, Choudhury might have been wrapped in cotton wool for a few days.

These are not normal circumstances.

“There's a few in an ideal world would be getting rested and maybe not starting, but that's the situation at the moment,” Wilder admitted.

So Ayew, with his durability and top-flight know-how, walks into a dressing room that needs exactly that: experience, legs, and someone ready to go again on Sunday lunchtime.
