Harry Kane will lead a strong English charge for the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or after being named among the nominees alongside Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.
The Bayern Munich striker has been installed as the bookmakers’ favourite for the award, which will be presented on 26 October at the London Palladium – the first time the ceremony has been staged in the English capital.
Kane’s case is compelling.
Seventy-three goals in 65 games for club and country.
Another Bundesliga title in his first season in Germany.
And the captaincy of an England side that claimed bronze at the World Cup.
He will need those numbers. The field chasing him is loaded.
Kane leads English hopes in stacked field
Holder Ousmane Dembele is back in the running, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Kylian Mbappe all feature among Kane’s leading rivals. The England captain, now 33, is aiming to become the first Englishman to lift the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
Premier League interest runs deep. Rice is joined on the 30-man list by Bruno Fernandes, Gabriel, Erling Haaland and William Saliba, all eyeing the trophy that will be handed out on a star-studded night in London.
Lionel Messi’s name appears once again, extending his extraordinary run of nominations. Cristiano Ronaldo’s does not. The Portugal great misses out on the shortlist this time.
Yamal headlines young talent race
Lamine Yamal’s remarkable rise continues with the Barcelona teenager headlining the Men’s Young Talent of the Year shortlist.
He is joined by Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi, Manchester City’s new arrival Ayyoub Bouaddi and recent Aston Villa signing Johan Manzambi. Chelsea’s Veerle Buurman is nominated on the women’s side of the young talent accolade.
Premier League flavour in coaching and club awards
On the touchline, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Aston Villa boss Unai Emery are both up for Men’s Coach of the Year. They go head-to-head with Spain’s Luis De La Fuente, Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique.
Arteta’s Arsenal are also in the running for Men’s Club of the Year, underlining the scale of the club’s resurgence in recent seasons.
Vozinha among goalkeeping elite
There is recognition too for Cape Verde star Vozinha, whose World Cup performances have earned him a place on the shortlist for Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year. He will compete with names such as Arsenal’s David Raya and Emiliano Martinez, now at Chelsea, for the honour.
London takes centre stage for Ballon d’Or milestone
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Ballon d’Or, created by France Football and co-organised with UEFA since 2024. To mark the milestone, the gala has been moved from its traditional home in Paris to London, a nod to the award’s first ever winner, England and Blackpool legend Stanley Matthews.
