Harding Falls to Washburn 2-0 in Gritty Match

SEARCY, Ark. — Harding’s defense bent, held, and went into halftime perfect again. Then, in the space of two minutes, the streak and the match slipped away.

The Lady Bisons fell 2-0 to unbeaten Washburn on Sunday at the Stevens Soccer Complex, undone by a quick second-half burst after another gritty opening 45 minutes.

Harding (1-2-2) has opened its 2026 season in a remarkable — and frustrating — pattern. For the fifth straight match, the Lady Bisons went to the break locked in a 0-0 deadlock. Five games, five scoreless first halves.

Washburn arrived with intent and showed it early. The Ichabods pushed numbers forward, pressed Harding’s back line, and carved out chances in the opening half. Harding answered with blocks, clearances, and disciplined shape, turning away each look to keep the match level and the defensive streak alive.

The resistance didn’t last after the restart.

Washburn finally broke through in the 57th minute, punishing Harding with the opener to seize control at 1-0. Before the Lady Bisons could settle, the Ichabods struck again just a minute later, adding an insurance goal in the 58th that effectively killed the contest and secured their road win.

Harding tried to respond on the break. The Lady Bisons chased a way back into the game through counters and direct runs at Washburn’s back line, but the final touch never came. Washburn edged the shot count 16-13, with both sides firing eight times in the second half, yet Harding couldn’t find the moment to change the story.
