Gavi Goes Pink: Spain's World Champion Fulfills World Cup Promise
Spain had barely finished celebrating a second star on the shirt when Gavi cashed in on a promise the whole dressing room knew about.
The Barcelona midfielder had vowed before the 2026 World Cup that if Spain went all the way in the USA, Canada and Mexico, he’d dye his hair pink. No conditions. No backtracking. Win the trophy, change the look.
Spain did their part. A hard, nervy, 1-0 win over Argentina in the final at the “New York New Jersey” stadium dragged into extra time and tested every ounce of their resilience. When the whistle finally went, Spain were back on top of the world for the first time since 2010.
Then it was Gavi’s turn.
There was no long delay, no softening of the bet in the glow of victory. The Andalusian headed straight to the hairdresser and let the clippers and dye tell the rest of the story. First came the shave, then the lightening, then the pink. Not a timid shade, either. A clear, light pink that jumps off the screen.
He unveiled the new look himself on Instagram, posting two photos that left no doubt he had followed through. Underneath, a simple caption: “A man who keeps his word.” No need for anything else. The hair did the talking.
His hairdresser added the behind-the-scenes details, confirming that Gavi never flinched during the makeover. No second thoughts, no half-measures.
The reaction from the Spain and Barcelona camp was instant. Lamine Yamal led the way in the comments, firing off laughing and crying emojis as the images bounced around social media. World champion, Barça star, and now owner of one of the most striking haircuts in European football.
Gavi has a few days left to enjoy the holidays before reality returns. On 12 August he is due back at Barcelona’s training camp, alongside his Spain teammates, to start preparing for the new season. He will report as a World Cup winner, carrying the confidence of a historic summer.
And he will walk into that dressing room with light pink hair, a fresh medal, and a clear message: say it, do it, live with it.
