Gattuso Closes Door on Icardi Transfer Rumors

Gennaro Gattuso has moved decisively to end the speculation. On the eve of his side’s next league fixture, the coach drew a clear line under rumours linking the club with former Inter captain Mauro Icardi.

“Let’s put this whole Icardi mess to rest,” Gattuso said, speaking via Calciomercato.com, making no attempt to dodge the subject that has hovered over the club’s transfer window. “He has scored 250 goals in his career, and nobody questions his value.”

Respect for Icardi’s record, yes. But no room for him in this project.

Gattuso underlined that the club has already committed to its attacking reinforcements and that those choices come with obligations.

“We made our choices; we signed [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Albert] Gudmundsson, and when you give your word to players, you can’t go back on it,” he stressed. “With all due respect to Icardi, I’ve discussed it with the president and the director, and it’s right to stick to what we have.”

The message was as much for his dressing room as it was for the outside world: the players who arrived in the summer are not placeholders while the club flirts with a bigger name. They are the plan.

Squad already overflowing

Gattuso then lifted the lid on another, more practical problem. Numbers.

“Right now, we already have players who have to sit out training because we have six full-backs,” he revealed. “When Marusic returns, two of them will have to be left out, and that doesn’t look good.”

That snapshot of daily work at the training ground explains the coach’s stance better than any transfer slogan. Adding another forward, even one with Icardi’s pedigree, would not just complicate the hierarchy up front; it would swell a squad he already considers bloated.

The club’s position is now crystal clear: the Icardi chapter is closed. The real test starts with the players who are already in the building.
