Fiorentina Pursues Joao Mario from Juventus with Loan-and-Buy Offer

Fiorentina have stepped in for Juventus full-back Joao Mario, submitting a formal offer as his future in Turin drifts further out of Luciano Spalletti’s plans for the 2026-27 season.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, La Viola have proposed a season-long loan with an option to buy set at around €8m-€9m, a structure that suits both clubs: Fiorentina limit their risk, Juventus secure a clear exit route for a player on the fringes.

Talks are described as advanced enough that the deal could be wrapped up as early as next week. Once the door opened, the move began to gather pace.

It marks another sharp turn in a stop-start Italian adventure for Joao Mario. Juventus signed him from Porto for €12.6m in the previous summer window, a move that looked like long-term planning for the right flank. Instead, he managed just 10 Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri before being pushed into a January reshuffle.

He was sent to Bologna on loan in a deal that saw Emil Holm head the other way. It was a pragmatic swap, a chance for all parties to reassess. By the end of the season, though, neither Juventus nor Bologna chose to make their respective loans permanent.

So Joao Mario returned to Turin for pre-season, back in black and white but without a clear role. Spalletti’s plans have moved on; the squad has evolved; the Portuguese defender finds himself as a movable piece rather than a pillar.

Fiorentina are ready to change that. If Juventus give the green light in the coming days, Joao Mario’s next chapter in Serie A will run through Florence.
