Eiran Cashin Ruled Out for Eight Weeks: Derby's Major Blow

Derby County have been dealt a major blow with defender Eiran Cashin set to miss around two months with a calf injury.

The centre-back only returned to Pride Park at the start of the month, rejoining on loan from Brighton for the rest of the season. A homegrown product who previously racked up 144 appearances for the Rams, his comeback was meant to anchor John Eustace’s defence for the run-in.

Instead, he now faces an extended spell in the treatment room.

Cashin went straight into the side on his return, starting the defeats against West Brom and Birmingham and playing almost the full 90 minutes in both games. His omission from the squad against Burnley raised eyebrows and, as it turns out, alarm bells.

“Cash is out now for about eight weeks, he’s done his calf,” manager John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby.

For a Derby team already trying to steady themselves after back-to-back losses, losing a key defender just as he was settling back in is a brutal twist. The question now is who steps up to fill the gap in the heart of their back line while one of their own watches from the sidelines.
