Chelsea Fined £10 Million for 74 Breaches of FA Regulations

Chelsea have been hit with a £10 million fine and a suspended two-window transfer ban after admitting to 74 breaches of Football Association regulations on agents and intermediaries.

The breaches stretch back into the Roman Abramovich era, but it was the club’s new ownership who brought them into the open. In 2022, as they were completing the takeover from the Russian billionaire, the new regime self-reported the issues to the football authorities, triggering the investigations that have now led to punishment.

Chelsea have already felt the regulatory heat on this front. The club previously reached sanction settlements with both the Premier League and UEFA over related matters, accepting penalties as part of a wider effort to draw a line under historic practices.

The latest decision does not immediately shut the door on future signings, but the suspended transfer ban will now loom over Stamford Bridge. Any fresh serious breach could bring it crashing down, with the kind of restrictions that reshape a club’s planning in a single stroke.
