Championship Manager of the Month Candidates: Jones, Matos, Peixoto, Stephan

The first month of the Championship season has already drawn its battle lines, and four dugouts stand out from the rest.

Charlton Athletic’s Nathan Jones, Swansea City’s Vitor Matos, Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto and QPR head coach Julien Stephan have all been shortlisted for August’s Championship Manager of the Month award.

Charlton Athletic

Jones has made the loudest early statement. Charlton flew out of the blocks with three wins from three, a perfect start that sent them straight to the top of the table and underlined their intent to be more than just early-season noise.

Swansea City

In South Wales, a new era has begun with calm authority. Under Matos, Swansea went unbeaten through August, collecting seven points. Those included eye-catching victories over Stoke City and Derby County, results that quickly gave his tenure credibility and momentum.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves, under Peixoto in his first season in charge, matched that seven-point haul from their opening three fixtures. The brief is clear at Molineux: bounce straight back to the Premier League. An assured start has kept that ambition on track and put Peixoto straight into the conversation for the division’s leading coaches.

Queens Park Rangers

QPR complete the quartet. Stephan has overseen an encouraging opening month in west London, with Rangers navigating August without defeat. Their away form has stood out in particular, with impressive wins at Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers hinting at a side with steel as well as style.

One of these four will collect the season’s first managerial prize when the winner is announced on Friday, 11 September. The others will know they have already laid down something just as important: an early marker in a long, unforgiving campaign.
