Burton Albion Sign Caylan Vickers from Brighton

Burton Albion have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the signing of winger Caylan Vickers from Premier League side Brighton.

The 21-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee and has signed a two-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium, with the Brewers holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

Vickers arrives with solid League One know-how already on his CV. Last season he took in loan spells at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, learning the division’s tempo and physicality while getting regular senior minutes under his belt.

A product of the Reading academy, Vickers made his breakthrough with the Royals before Brighton swooped to take him to the south coast. He never broke into the Seagulls’ first team, but his development there has kept him on the radar of EFL clubs looking for pace and direct running in wide areas.

Burton head coach Gary Bowyer believes he has exactly that.

"He's an attacking player who will excite our supporters whilst adding goals and assists to the team," said Bowyer. "Having played at this level already, he arrives ready to contribute and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop with us."

For Burton, the move is a clear statement of intent: add youth, add energy, add end product.

For Vickers, it is something else entirely – a permanent platform, at last, to turn promise into numbers.

His first chance to make an impression could come quickly. Burton are at home to AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening, and all eyes will be on whether their new winger is unleashed in front of his new crowd.
