Brown Bears Secure Late Victory Against Saint Peter's

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — For 85 minutes, Brown pushed, prodded, and watched chances slip by. In the 86th, Lorenzo Amaral finally ripped the night away from Saint Peter’s.

His low finish, his second goal of the season, sealed a 1-0 win for the Bears at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday and pushed Brown to 2-1 on the year, 2-0 at home.

The breakthrough came late but with purpose. Brown and Alex Sauerbrei combined to set up Amaral, who had been a menace all evening, and the forward made no mistake to punish the Peacocks and tilt a tight match at the death.

Amaral ended with a game-high six shots, the centerpiece of a Brown attack that outshot Saint Peter’s 12-7. The Bears dictated much of the tempo, but for long stretches they had nothing to show for it but near-misses and frustration.

The pattern started early. The first half finished scoreless, yet Brown carried the initiative, leading 6-3 in shots. Amaral alone accounted for five of those, repeatedly finding pockets of space and testing the back line, only to see efforts blocked, deflected, or drift wide.

Saint Peter’s held on, organized and resilient, and leaned on goalkeeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen to keep the match level. Brown’s pressure never fully relented, but the visitors refused to crack before halftime.

The tension rose after the break.

Midway through the second half, Brown surged again. Mateo Pereyra forced Heredia-Randen into a save that produced a corner, and the crowd sensed a turning point. Off the ensuing set piece, the ball fell to James Snaith at the top of the 18-yard box. His driven shot looked destined for the net before Heredia-Randen intervened once more, keeping Brown out and Saint Peter’s alive.

Just when it felt like the game might drift toward a stalemate, Amaral imposed himself one last time. The Bears’ persistence finally met its reward in the 86th minute, and the Peacocks had no time to answer.

At the other end, Brown goalkeeper Graham Kois quietly authored a milestone of his own. In his first-ever start for the Bears, Kois made two saves and collected a debut clean sheet, anchoring a back line that limited Saint Peter’s to seven shots and few clear looks at goal.

With the late win banked, Brown now turns toward its next challenge. The Bears are back under the lights at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Friday, Sept. 11, when they welcome Stonehill for a 7 p.m. kickoff — and a chance to extend a perfect start on home turf.
