Bayern Munich have set their sights on Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha, testing the resolve of a club who insist the 17-year-old is central to their future.
The German champions have made enquiries over a potential move for the winger, sounding out the possibility of prising him from Anfield. At this stage, there have been no face-to-face talks, no formal sit-downs across a negotiating table. But the interest is real, and Ngumoha knows it.
He is currently thousands of miles away from the noise, in Florida with the England squad as a supplementary member of the group. Even there, the story has followed him. The youngster is understood to be aware of Bayern’s admiration, though there is no agreement on personal terms and no sign yet of a breakthrough.
Inside Liverpool, the message is blunt: he is not for sale.
Club sources are adamant Ngumoha is viewed as an important part of the first-team picture, especially in a wide position Liverpool are actively trying to strengthen rather than strip back. They see him not as a luxury prospect, but as a live option for next season.
That stance sits alongside a major pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. Liverpool’s interest in Diomande is serious. If a deal can be done, it would add another high-level wide player to the squad – and, for Ngumoha, another obstacle in the fight for regular minutes.

Ngumoha has already shown why Europe’s heavyweights are circling. On his Premier League debut in August, he stepped into the chaos of a 3-2 thriller at Newcastle United and left his mark: two goals, including a late winner that announced him in the most dramatic fashion. Across the 2025-26 campaign he added one assist, modest numbers on paper but significant for a player still in his first steps at senior level.
His introduction to Liverpool’s first team came even earlier. Under then-manager Arne Slot, he started a 4-0 FA Cup win over Accrington in January 2025. He was 16 years and 135 days old. That night he became the youngest player ever to start a match for Liverpool, a statistic that underlined how quickly he had convinced staff he belonged on that stage.
Ngumoha’s route to Anfield has already carried a touch of drama. He left Chelsea’s academy in September 2024, walking away from one of the country’s most productive youth systems to join Liverpool. A year later he signed his first professional contract with the club, a clear signal of mutual commitment.
The move did not come without a cost. In February 2026, a tribunal ruled Liverpool must pay at least £2.8m to Chelsea in compensation for the winger. For an academy product with only a handful of senior appearances, that figure underlined how highly both clubs rated his potential.
He has long been on the radar within the national setup too, progressing through the England age groups and now edging into the senior orbit with his involvement in the current camp.
So the pieces are set. Bayern, with their track record of luring young talent from abroad, have made their interest known. Liverpool, still shaping a post-Arne Slot era, are trying to lock down a player they believe can help define the next phase of their attack.
