Danilo Aims for Final Season at Flamengo in 2027

Danilo has made it clear: the final chapter of his career is being written with Flamengo in mind.

The veteran defender, speaking at a press conference at the Ninho do Urubu training ground, revealed that only now has he truly had the headspace to sit with the club’s hierarchy and shape what should be his last contract as a professional.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining why talks over his future had been pushed back.

The international calendar drained his energy, and every ounce of focus went into staying at the level required on the biggest stage.

Now, with the World Cup behind him and the pace of his schedule easing, the picture looks different.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

The message is as simple as it is powerful: he wants to end where his heart has always been. The former Real Madrid and Manchester City full-back underlined that negotiations are on the right track and free of friction, painting a calm and confident scenario around his renewal.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working,” he said.

No drama. No stand-off. Just a shared intention to align dates and details so that 2027 becomes his farewell season in red and black.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy - that would be wonderful.”

For Danilo, it is no longer about building a résumé. It is about closing the circle at Flamengo, with one last push for a major title to frame the final year of a career he wants to end exactly where it started in his imagination.
