Basil Tuma Named in Malta Provisional Squad
Aldershot Town winger Basil Tuma has been named in Malta’s provisional 29-man squad, another step in a rapid, cross-continental journey for the 21-year-old.
Tuma only arrived at the EBB Stadium in the summer, signing from Reading, but he has wasted no time making an impact. Eight appearances into his Aldershot career, he has helped drive the Shots up to eighth in the table on 15 points, injecting pace and direct running into their attack.
His story stretches far beyond the National League. Born in Uganda, Tuma first pulled on international colours for his homeland at the 2020 CECAFA Under-17 Championship, showcasing the talent that would soon attract attention elsewhere. By September 2022, he had switched allegiance at youth level, called into the Malta Under-19s setup.
The senior breakthrough came quickly. Tuma made his full Malta debut in October 2024, introduced at half-time and immediately changing the game’s rhythm by winning a penalty. That cameo set the tone. He has added seven more caps since, becoming a regular option in the squad before his 22nd birthday.
Upcoming Fixtures
Now comes another test. Malta face a demanding run of three UEFA Nations League fixtures in two weeks, starting with a trip to Andorra on 24 September. A home friendly against Liechtenstein follows on 27 September, a chance to fine-tune before the competitive fixtures tighten again.
