Arsenal Considers £38m Bid from Galatasaray for Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal face a major call over Gabriel Martinelli’s future after Galatasaray tested their resolve with a £38million offer for the winger.

The Brazilian has just one year left on his current deal in north London, though the club hold an option to extend that by a further 12 months. Even with that safety net, Arsenal have been open privately to a sale at the right price this summer. Now that stance is being dragged into the spotlight.

Galatasaray have come forward with a formal proposal and view Martinelli as a statement signing, the kind of arrival to jolt a title race and send a message across Turkey and Europe. Whether the 25-year-old is ready to make that leap is another matter.

Those close to the situation do not believe Martinelli is agitating to leave. His preference is understood to be to stay in one of Europe’s top leagues rather than move to the Süper Lig at this stage of his career. Arsenal, though, are reshaping their attack, and personal wishes may yet collide with the club’s wider transfer plan.

Arteta’s attacking puzzle

Mikel Arteta wants a different dimension on the left flank. That has been clear for months. Arsenal remain in the market for a new left winger, and as the window heads into its decisive stretch, the focus at London Colney is turning sharply towards outgoings.

The club are actively looking to move on Gabriel Jesus, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira. If those exits materialise and other targets fall into place, Arsenal have not ruled out more high-profile departures. Christos Tzolis has already arrived from Club Brugge in a £34m deal and has impressed in pre-season. His signing, though, was designed to replace Leandro Trossard, who left for Besiktas in a £15.3m move, rather than to close off the search for a marquee wide player.

The plan has always been for Tzolis to be part of a broader rebuild in the forward line, not the headline act on his own. That is why Arsenal’s recruitment team have kept the door open for another big attacking signing, particularly on the left.

Martinelli’s seven-year question

Martinelli has been at Arsenal for seven years, a fan favourite with flashes of brilliance and a relentless work rate. Yet he has never completely locked down the status of undisputed first-choice winger.
