After weeks of quiet work behind the scenes, the club are preparing an opening bid for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, with negotiations on the player’s side now at an advanced stage.
Sources indicate Arsenal have made “significant” progress in talks with Rogers’s representatives over the past few days. Those conversations have shifted the mood in north London: there is growing confidence that the England international now sees the Emirates as his preferred destination.
That belief has emboldened Arsenal. The next step is an official approach to Aston Villa. The obstacle is obvious and enormous: money.
A £100m question – and then some
Villa have been unwavering in public. Rogers is not for sale. Any club wanting to test that stance has been warned they must come to the table with a figure well beyond £100million just to start a conversation.
Inside Arsenal, though, there is a feeling this deal sits in the realm of possibility, not fantasy. If they can find common ground with Villa, there is a sense that a transfer can be done.
The price point is brutal. Those close to the situation believe any agreement would need to make Rogers the most expensive English player of all time, eclipsing the £116million Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson. That is the scale of the financial challenge facing Arsenal.

Manchester City, who nurtured Rogers in their academy, have also let it be known they would welcome the chance to bring him back to the Etihad if the opportunity presents itself.
Manchester United and Liverpool are keeping a watching brief, tracking developments and staying informed, even as Arsenal are increasingly viewed as the frontrunners.
Villa’s public position has not shifted. The Midlands club do not want to lose one of their key assets and are fully aware Rogers is weighing up his future. Behind closed doors, there is an acceptance that a sale could happen one day – but only for a record-breaking fee that reflects his status and potential.
Arteta’s attacking reset
Rogers is not a standalone target. He sits at the centre of a broader reshaping of Arsenal’s attack.
The club retain interest in Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola and Club Brugge forward Christos Tzolis. Both remain on the radar. Yet Rogers has moved to the top of the list, with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez currently pushed into the background as the Argentine continues to prioritise Barcelona.
Arsenal have already started clearing space. Leandro Trossard has agreed personal terms with Besiktas, signalling a willingness to break up the current forward unit. Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are also available for transfer if the right offers arrive.
Mikel Arteta’s vision for Rogers is clear. He sees the Villa man primarily as the long-term answer on the left side of his attack, not as a No 10. In Arteta’s eyes, Rogers has the blend of power, technique and intelligence to lift Arsenal’s frontline for years.
