West Ham Warns Fans Over Offensive Chant Aimed at Manor Solomon

West Ham have issued a sharp warning to their own supporters after an "offensive and divisive" chant aimed at Manor Solomon was heard during their Championship opener at Burnley.

The club said it was aware of a song, containing what it described as an "anti-Palestine message", sung by a section of the away end during last Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Turf Moor. The chant focused on Solomon, the Israel international winger who joined from Tottenham this summer.

Club's Statement

With their first home league game of the season against Charlton looming, West Ham moved to draw a clear line. In a statement released before the fixture, the club reminded fans that "each and every supporter is an ambassador for West Ham United" and stressed the responsibility that comes with wearing the claret and blue.

The message was blunt. Every fan, "regardless of their background", should be able to watch West Ham without "fear, discrimination or abuse". The club underlined its commitment to making sure everyone inside the ground "feels safe, respected and included".

Matchday Atmosphere

West Ham did not rail against atmosphere. They acknowledged that singing and chanting are "a traditional and deeply embedded part of the matchday experience" and urged supporters to be "loud and proud" about the team and the players. The line was drawn at songs "that create division or cause offence among fellow fans".

Manor Solomon's Background

Solomon, 27, arrives with a substantial pedigree. Capped 49 times by Israel, he won three league titles in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk before loan spells at Fulham and Leeds, where he helped Leeds secure the Championship title in 2024-25.
