West Ham United Sign Joel Piroe on Loan from Leeds United

West Ham United have moved to bolster their attack with the signing of Joel Piroe from Leeds United on a season-long loan, including an obligation to buy in the summer of 2027.

The 27-year-old arrives with a formidable record in the Championship. He has scored 73 league goals across four seasons in the second tier, first exploding at Swansea City before continuing his form at Leeds, where he finished as the club’s top scorer in the 2024-25 campaign as they claimed the title.

The step up proved harsher. Last season in the Premier League, Piroe went 16 games without a goal for Leeds, a barren run that ultimately opened the door for his departure. West Ham are now betting that his proven finishing at Championship level can translate with the right setup and confidence.

"I think it's a good opportunity for me to show what I've learned and how I've grown as a football player over the years," Piroe told West Ham’s website, setting out his intent to reset his top-flight story in claret and blue.

Born in the Netherlands and now a Suriname international, Piroe came through at PSV Eindhoven and gained early senior experience on loan at Sparta Rotterdam before his move to England, where he quickly established himself as one of the most reliable scorers outside the Premier League.

West Ham have kept the finer details under wraps. The club have not disclosed the agreed fee for the 2027 permanent move, nor the length of the contract that will follow his loan.

Piroe becomes West Ham’s fifth permanent incoming of a busy summer, following Venezuela midfielder Keiber Lamadrid, Dutch defender Joel Veltman, Israel winger Manor Solomon and Belgium midfielder Arne Engels. The rebuild in East London has its centre-forward now; the question is whether Piroe can finally turn Championship firepower into Premier League goals.
