Wayne Rooney Joins Mark Goldbridge in New United Show
Wayne Rooney is stepping back into the Manchester United spotlight this season – not on the pitch, but behind a microphone.
The club’s all-time leading scorer will co-host a new United-focused show, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge. The programme sits under Gary Neville’s growing Overlap media brand and marks a striking collision of old-school United royalty and new-age fan media.
Rooney joins forces with Goldbridge
Rooney is already a familiar face on The Overlap’s flagship panel show, Stick to Football. Now he moves from ensemble cast to front man, sharing hosting duties with Goldbridge, whose hyper-reactive live streams and unapologetic opinions have built a huge online following.
Goldbridge, real name Brent di Cesare, commands more than 3.8 million followers across his two YouTube channels, The United Stand and That's Football. Clips of his rants and celebrations routinely race around social media, turning him into one of the most recognisable fan voices in English football.
That reach did not go unnoticed. Earlier this year, Neville bought Goldbridge’s channels for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, folding them into The Overlap network he founded in 2021. The move pulled one of the biggest independent fan platforms under the umbrella of a former United captain who once railed against the rise of such outlets.
Disney+ deal powers new schedule
Stick to United with Wayne Rooney forms a key part of a new distribution deal with Disney+. The streaming giant will carry 50 episodes of the United show and 40 episodes of Stick to Football this season, handing The Overlap a powerful global shop window.
Neville has been clear about the strategy, insisting the partnership “expands our reach without compromising our identity”. The Overlap has already pushed beyond football into cricket and rugby; this tie-up takes that expansion into a different league.
For United fans, it means regular, club-specific content fronted by one of their greatest players, paired with a host who built his name as the voice of the terraces online. For Neville, it cements The Overlap’s shift from niche YouTube project to mainstream sports media player.
From critic of fan TV to owner of it
Neville’s embrace of Goldbridge is all the more striking given his history with fan channels. He famously tore into ArsenalFanTV in 2017, calling it “embarrassing” after supporters on the platform laid into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea.
That sparked a heated exchange on Twitter, before Neville later appeared on ArsenalFanTV to explain his stance. Seven years on, he now owns one of the biggest equivalents in the United sphere, and has placed Rooney at the heart of it.
It is a sharp illustration of how the media landscape around English football has shifted – and how quickly former players are moving to control it.
Rooney’s punditry portfolio grows
Stick to United is not Rooney’s only on-screen commitment. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, while he continues in his punditry role on Match of the Day.
From Old Trafford icon to multi-platform broadcaster, Rooney now sits across traditional television, mainstream streaming and fan-led digital media. For Manchester United supporters, that means his voice – once heard only in post-match interviews – will be dissecting their club from just about every angle.
The question now is simple: in a season of scrutiny at Old Trafford, how loudly will Wayne Rooney’s verdicts echo?
