Valencia Targeting Harvey Elliott for Loan Move
Valencia are lining up one of the more intriguing moves of the summer – and they want Harvey Elliott at the heart of it.
The Spanish club have pushed the Liverpool playmaker to the very top of their attacking wishlist, sensing an opportunity as the England international slips down the pecking order under Andoni Iraola at Anfield. This is not a name being kicked around in a meeting room. This is a target.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, negotiations between Liverpool, Valencia and the player are already underway, with all three sides keen to move fast. Elliott has made his stance clear to Iraola: he wants to leave Anfield and head to Mestalla. That clarity has injected real optimism into the talks over a loan deal, with all parties confident a solution can be found.
Valencia coach Carlos Corberán has not left this to intermediaries. As reported by Spanish newspaper Marca, he picked up the phone himself and spoke directly to the 23-year-old, outlining the role he sees for him in La Liga. The conversation landed. Elliott is described as excited by the idea of a fresh start in Spain and the prospect of wearing the Valencia shirt.
Inside the club, the plan is simple: make him the player who breaks games open. Valencia’s hierarchy believe Elliott can unpick deep defences, carry the ball through the lines and chip in with goals from midfield – precisely the profile they have lacked in recent seasons.
Elliott knows all about the uncertainty of a loan spell. Last season he joined Aston Villa but never truly settled into Unai Emery’s rotation. He made just nine appearances in all competitions. One more would have changed everything. A clause in the agreement stated that a 10th outing would have triggered an obligation for Villa to buy him permanently for £35 million. That threshold hung over the move. Emery admitted the lack of minutes weighed on the player before he returned to Liverpool this summer.
His Anfield story has been long for someone still so young. Since arriving from Fulham in 2019, Elliott has played 149 times for Liverpool, growing from precocious talent into a trusted option under Jürgen Klopp. In Klopp’s final season, he featured 53 times and was a key part of the squad’s rotation, often injecting tempo and creativity off the bench or from the start.
Then the landscape shifted. Elliott has slipped out of the plans of former coach Arne Slot and now Iraola. The latest sign could hardly have been more blunt: he was left out of the matchday squad against Newcastle. In a squad as competitive as Liverpool’s, that kind of omission sends a message. Right now, other options come first.
