McKenzie heading back to Philadelphia

USMNT center back Mark McKenzie is set to rejoin the Philadelphia Union, as reported by The Athletic. The Union will pay around $2.5 million to bring him in from French side Toulouse, a significant but calculated outlay for a defender entering his prime at 27.
The move is slightly unusual in its timing. McKenzie will spend the first half of the 2026-27 season in Ligue 1 before making the switch back to MLS in the winter, giving him one more European run before anchoring the Union’s back line again.

A return to Leipzig would carry a certain symmetry. Between 2019 and 2023, Nkunku lit up the Bundesliga there, evolving into one of Europe’s most devastating attacking threats before his move to Chelsea and subsequent switch to Milan. Leipzig knows exactly what he can do. Nkunku knows exactly what he would be walking back into.
