Tottenham's £400m Summer Revolution: Savinho, Marmoush, and Gakpo
Tottenham’s £400m revolution might not be done yet. Not by a long shot.
Savinho is in the bag after an £85m agreement with Manchester City, Omar Marmoush is edging closer by the day, and yet the noise around the club suggests something even bigger could still be coming down the track.
Two wingers, one striker – and maybe more
Fabrizio Romano set the framework on Thursday: Tottenham’s summer blueprint is clear – two wingers and a central striker. Savinho and Cody Gakpo were identified as the wide options, with a new No 9 to complete the attacking rebuild.
The first part is already signed off. Spurs have struck their deal with City for Savinho and quickly pivoted to the second prong of their attacking push, Marmoush.
The Eintracht Frankfurt forward has agreed personal terms with Tottenham on a five‑year contract and is described as very keen to work under Roberto De Zerbi. Talks between the clubs are said to be “very close” to a conclusion and could be wrapped up within days. If and when that happens, Tottenham’s outlay this window will surge towards an extraordinary £400m.
And yet, the suggestion is they might still not be done.
“May yet go bigger”
According to The Independent’s chief football writer Miguel Delaney, Tottenham “may yet go bigger than Savinho and Omar Marmoush”, as he wrote in his Inside Football newsletter.
The obvious name in that conversation is Gakpo. Romano has repeatedly framed the plan as Savinho, Gakpo and a central striker – a trio in which Marmoush now appears to be filling the centre-forward role.
Gakpo has been heavily linked with Spurs all summer. Over the last few days, though, Marmoush has dominated the headlines while the Dutchman’s situation has gone quieter. Romano insists that silence should not be mistaken for an ending.
“It’s not over at all, the summer transfer window for Tottenham. I always told you Savinho, Gakpo, and a central striker. Savinho is done. Gakpo: we will talk in the next few days,” he said.
If that conversation doesn’t end with Gakpo in north London, the implication is stark: Spurs could have another attacking name lined up completely under the radar.
With the window now in its final week, the cloak will have to come off soon enough.
What has to happen for Gakpo to move
Gakpo has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham and is understood to be very keen on the switch. The problem lies elsewhere. Liverpool have proved stubborn negotiators because they still see him as part of their plans.
His strong pre-season has only strengthened that stance, as has the club’s belief that new manager Andoni Iraola can unlock even more from him. That combination makes any deal complicated.
Tottenham have not yet submitted a formal offer. That could change quickly if Liverpool manage to bring in attacking reinforcements. Moves for Paris Saint-Germain pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye are being watched closely in north London.
Should either of those arrive at Anfield, competition for Gakpo’s position would spike. At that point, Liverpool might finally listen to proposals they are currently batting away.
For now, Spurs have Savinho secured, Marmoush close, and a fanbase wondering: is the biggest punch of this window still to come?
