Tottenham Signs £60m Omar Marmoush Deal Amidst £300m Rebuild
Tottenham Hotspur have thrashed out a full agreement with Manchester City to sign Omar Marmoush on an initial loan that turns into a big-money permanent move, according to The Athletic.
The 27-year-old Egypt international will join Spurs on loan first, with a mandatory purchase clause set at a fixed £50m and a further £10m in potential add-ons. Half of those bonuses are described as easily achievable, underlining how confident Spurs are that Marmoush will play a central role in Roberto De Zerbi’s overhaul.
He is set to sign a four-year contract in north London, with an option for a further 12 months. Eintracht Frankfurt, the club City bought him from, will not receive any sell-on percentage from this deal.
From Etihad frustration to Spurs revival plan
A move away from the Etihad had been looming for Marmoush after a stop-start spell under Pep Guardiola. He only arrived in Manchester in January 2025, but regular minutes never truly followed.
Last season he scored eight times in 36 appearances in all competitions. The numbers tell the story of a player on the fringes: just eight Premier League starts and 13 outings from the bench. Encouraging flashes, no sustained run.
City had paid heavily to prise him from Frankfurt, committing up to €75m (£63m) after he tore through the first half of the 2024-25 season in Germany with 20 goals in 26 games. He began life in Manchester brightly enough, returning seven goals in his first 16 appearances.
Then the minutes dried up. Competition stiffened, the pecking order hardened, and Marmoush slipped out of Guardiola’s core group. His last competitive appearance came as a substitute for Erling Haaland in City’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on 16 August — a sobering cameo in a flat afternoon.
Now he gets a reset. And Spurs get a forward with something to prove.
Spurs’ spending spree rolls on
Marmoush’s arrival continues a ferocious summer of business at Tottenham, one that has already pushed their outlay beyond £300m.
The Egyptian follows the headline capture of Brazilian winger Savinho in an £85m deal, finally completing a long-running pursuit that stretched back to last year. Around them, De Zerbi’s squad is being aggressively reshaped.
- Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke have all come in for significant fees.
- Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have joined on free transfers, adding experience and depth without a transfer premium.
This is not tinkering. It is a full-scale rebuild.
De Zerbi’s tactical wildcard
Before he can be unveiled, Marmoush will undergo his medical in London and finalise the last details ahead of the transfer deadline. Spurs’ staff are eager to get him integrated quickly.
De Zerbi and his coaches see Marmoush as a versatile weapon across the front line, capable of operating centrally or drifting wide to stretch defences. In a season that will be crammed with fixtures, they are banking on his adaptability to unlock different shapes and approaches game to game.
For Tottenham, the urgency is clear. Back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League have dragged the club into a fight it never expected to be in. The frontline needed shock treatment, not minor tweaks.
