Tottenham's Ambitious Double Move for Savinho and Marmoush
Tottenham are deep in negotiations with Manchester City over an ambitious double move for forwards Savinho and Omar Marmoush, as Roberto De Zerbi turns his rebuild towards the sharp end of the pitch.
Talks between the clubs are progressing, according to sources, though no agreement is in place yet. The numbers, and how far Spurs are prepared to stretch, will decide whether this turns into one of the window’s defining deals.
Savinho ready to move on
Spurs’ pursuit of Savinho is not new. Their interest in the Brazilian winger goes back to 2025, when the then 22-year-old chose to stay and fight for his place at Etihad Stadium instead of pushing for a move.
That gamble never really paid off. Savinho managed only seven Premier League starts last season, stuck behind established options and unable to build rhythm. For a player signed for £30m from French side Troyes in 2024, it was a frustrating return.
Now he is minded to leave, seeking a club willing to hand him the responsibility and minutes he has struggled to secure in Manchester. De Zerbi, who values directness and one‑v‑one ability out wide, sees an opportunity.
Marmoush offers proven output
Alongside Savinho, Spurs are also working on a deal for Omar Marmoush, whose time under Pep Guardiola has cooled after a bright start.
City paid £59m to sign the Egypt international from Frankfurt in 2025. He slipped down the pecking order in the 2025-26 campaign, but still delivered a respectable eight goals across 36 appearances in all competitions. Not spectacular, but steady – and in a Tottenham side that scored only 48 league goals last season, that level of contribution would matter.
Marmoush brings versatility across the front line and a profile that fits De Zerbi’s preference for mobile, aggressive forwards who press from the front.
City’s exact valuation for the pair remains under wraps, but the expectation inside the club is clear: any sale must generate a significant profit on both players.
De Zerbi turns from midfield to firepower
Tottenham’s summer to this point has been defined by heavy investment in midfield. Mateus Fernandes arrived from West Ham United and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, a combined outlay of £185m that has reshaped the core of De Zerbi’s side.
The Italian has been open about what must come next. A team that finished 17th in the Premier League and scored just 48 goals in 38 games cannot rely on midfield upgrades alone. The attack needs fresh edge, more goals, more threat.
That is where Savinho and Marmoush come in: one a winger still to fully announce himself at elite level, the other a forward with enough experience to contribute immediately.
Gakpo interest complicates the equation
Cody Gakpo remains on Tottenham’s radar. The Liverpool forward has long been admired at the club and fits the profile of a multi-functional attacker who could slot into several roles in De Zerbi’s system.
The problem is the budget. It is unclear whether Spurs can realistically finance a move for Gakpo on top of potential deals for both Savinho and Marmoush. At some point, a choice may be forced: two from City, or one marquee addition from Anfield.
How Tottenham structure any agreement with City – fees, instalments, potential add-ons – will shape what else they can do before the window closes.
City’s ongoing reshuffle
For City, this is another step in a summer of significant churn. The champions have already allowed captain Rodri to leave, along with midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and second-choice goalkeeper James Trafford.
Letting Savinho and Marmoush go would underline a clear pattern: Guardiola and the club are trimming the squad, cashing in on assets who sit outside the core group, and banking funds for their own next moves.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are trying to move in the opposite direction – from survival mode to something far more ambitious. Whether that leap is powered by Savinho, Marmoush, Gakpo, or some combination of the three will say plenty about how serious this new De Zerbi era really is.
