Tottenham Pursues Cody Gakpo and Savinho Amid Transfer Talks
Tottenham are refusing to pin their summer on a single forward. Under Roberto De Zerbi, the plan is broader, bolder and very much alive on two fronts: Cody Gakpo and Savinho.
According to Caught Offside, Spurs are “actively working on both” players. That line matters. It points to a club trying to build a market of its own rather than sitting and waiting for one negotiation to define the window.
Savinho: the fast lane
Right now, Savinho is the cleaner route.
The Manchester City winger is understood to have made his preference clear: he wants Tottenham. That stance strengthens Spurs’ position and explains why talks around the Brazilian are described as the more advanced of the two.
He fits what De Zerbi wants. Pace. Direct running. A wide player who can beat his man and stretch games. Tottenham have needed that extra spark in the final third, and Savinho ticks several of those boxes at once.
Crucially, Spurs are not treating him as a consolation prize. The club are still driving energy into both pursuits, a signal of intent in the attacking department rather than a one-in, one-out calculation.
Gakpo: Liverpool hold the keys
Gakpo is a different puzzle.
Tottenham’s interest is real, but Liverpool control the timing. The Netherlands international could be available after a difficult spell at Anfield, yet any serious move hinges on what Liverpool manage to do first in the market.
The Merseyside club are exploring reinforcements out wide, notably Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Until those deals move, the door to Gakpo stays only half open. Liverpool “don’t want to commit to that sale” while their own business remains unresolved, wary of weakening their attacking depth too early.
Barcola sits at the heart of that stand-off. His potential arrival is described as complicated and expensive, with “no guarantee at this stage that it goes through.” If Liverpool eventually unlock that deal, Gakpo’s exit path sharpens. If they don’t, Spurs may be left waiting.
So Tottenham watch, rather than rush. Internally, this is a waiting game: monitor Liverpool, be ready for the green light, but don’t waste the window staring at one door.
Market pressure and rivals in the background
The Gakpo picture is not entirely Spurs versus Liverpool, either.

For Tottenham, that creates a narrow but navigable lane. Gakpo remains on the radar, yet not in a bidding war. Savinho, by contrast, is moving faster, fuelled by the player’s own wish to join and De Zerbi’s clear desire for attacking upgrades before the new campaign kicks off.
A different kind of Spurs window?
From a Tottenham angle, the overall picture feels significant.
The suggestion that “Spurs are actively working on both” targets is exactly the kind of behaviour supporters have long demanded: multiple options, parallel tracks, the ability to pivot quickly when an opportunity appears.
Gakpo would be a headline arrival. He has operated at a high level, covers several roles across the front line and looks like the kind of player who could flourish with a fresh start. If Liverpool genuinely open the door once they secure cover out wide, Tottenham will need to be ready to move at speed. Forwards of that quality do not come onto the market often.
Savinho, though, carries a different kind of appeal. Unpredictability. Raw speed. One‑v‑one threat. The very traits Spurs have lacked consistently in wide areas. If De Zerbi wants greater dynamism and variety, this is a move that aligns neatly with his blueprint.
The dream scenario for the fanbase is obvious: land both and transform the front line in a single window, giving Tottenham the depth to attack a full season on multiple fronts. Even if only one deal gets over the line, the message matters almost as much as the name.
Tottenham finally look like a club willing to act with conviction. Now the question is simple: will Liverpool’s next move allow them to finish what they’ve started?
