Tottenham Nears £60m Omar Marmoush Signing as Key Striker
Tottenham are closing on the signing of Omar Marmoush after agreeing a loan deal with an obligation to buy with Manchester City, in a move that underlines the scale of Spurs’ attacking rebuild.
The Egyptian forward is due to undergo a medical ahead of a switch that will ultimately be worth an initial £50million. That fee will be backed up by £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in additional bonuses, taking the potential outlay to £60m.
Marmoush is expected to sign a four-year contract in north London, with Spurs holding an option to extend the agreement by a further 12 months. It is a long-term commitment to a player who, for all his flashes of quality, never quite nailed down a place at City.
The structure of the deal is clear. Tottenham get their man on loan now, with the obligation to buy already locked in, and City bank a sizeable fee for a forward they only signed in January 2025.
Crucially for Spurs, the move is entirely separate from the £85m signing of Savio, Marmoush’s former City team-mate, who completed his transfer to north London on Tuesday. Savio is available to make his debut in the Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Charlton tonight, underlining how quickly Tottenham’s new-look attack is taking shape.
There will be no sell-on windfall for Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush’s former club. Despite suggestions to the contrary, no such clause is due as part of this agreement.
Marmoush arrives with a point to prove. Last season he struggled for consistent minutes and made only eight Premier League starts, unable to turn an encouraging start at City into a permanent place in the side. He still finished the campaign with eight goals from 36 appearances in all competitions, enough to convince Spurs he can grow into a leading role.
At Tottenham, the 25-year-old believes he can do more than just compete. He comes in confident he can eventually displace Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to become Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice centre-forward. That is the internal battle Spurs want: three high-level strikers, one coveted starting spot.
For City, Marmoush’s rapid slide down the pecking order made this outcome almost inevitable. For Spurs, it is another bold swing in a market they are currently dominating.
The numbers tell their own story. With Marmoush set to follow Savio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke through the door, Tottenham’s summer spending has already surged beyond the £300m mark.
The question now is simple: can this aggressive rebuild turn Spurs from big spenders into genuine contenders?
