Tolu Arokodare Shines in Ajax's Europa League Win

Tolu Arokodare came off the bench and tore into the game like he’d been waiting all night for that whistle.

Ajax were already in control of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff against Sion, but the 4-2 scoreline owed plenty to the Nigerian’s late surge. Introduced in the 72nd minute for Marcos Leonardo, Arokodare needed barely two minutes to stamp his name on the tie.

The forward arrived with purpose, attacking space and punishing a tiring Sion back line to stretch the advantage in a contest that had refused to fully settle. His impact didn’t stop there. As Sion chased a way back, Arokodare turned provider, squaring for Davy Klaassen to sweep home Ajax’s fourth three minutes from time and kill off any remaining doubt.

It was the sort of cameo managers remember. So did Míchel Sánchez.

“Tolu brought a lot of energy when he came on. He works hard, he scores and he helps us,” the Ajax manager told Ajax Life, as quoted by Goal. “He has a good character. I think he is a nice boy. I hope he keeps helping us in this way.”
