Tiago Gabriel: Lecce Defender Attracts Major Interest

Lecce’s latest breakout defender, Tiago Gabriel, is fast becoming one of the most talked‑about names of the summer after a standout 2025/26 campaign in Serie A – and the queue for his signature is growing.

The Italian club have already turned down a significant proposal. Benfica, long admirers of the young centre-back, saw a €20 million bid rejected earlier in the summer, a clear signal that Lecce intend to drive a hard bargain for one of their prized assets.

That refusal has opened the door to a wider auction. Jorge Mendes, who represents Gabriel, is now actively testing the market. Crystal Palace are among the clubs in the race, with the Premier League side monitoring the situation as they weigh up a move for the 21-year-old.

Mendes has not stopped there. According to reports in Italy, the super-agent has also offered Gabriel to Milan, a club with whom he enjoys a close working relationship. It is not the first time the Rossoneri have been presented with the chance to sign the defender, but this time the context feels different: Gabriel has a full, impressive Serie A season behind him, and the interest around him is real.

The timing is no coincidence. Mendes arrived in Milan today to finalise a deal involving Diego Moreira, and during those talks Gabriel’s name was again pushed across the table. Milan, looking to refresh and reinforce at the back, have added the Lecce talent to their shortlist and have already made initial contact with the Apulian club.

For now, that is where it stops. There is no formal offer from Milan on the table yet, just an open channel and a growing sense that Gabriel will not stay in Lecce forever.
