Sparta Prague Signs Loïc Mbe Soh as Sørensen Replacement
Sparta Prague are on the brink of sealing a significant defensive signing, with Loïc Mbe Soh undergoing a medical on August 24 ahead of an expected swift announcement, according to iSport.cz.
The Cameroon-born centre back is set to arrive from Belgian side Saint-Truiden in a deal worth around €3 million, report eFotbal.cz and Eurofotbal.cz. Those same reports are clear on one point: he is coming in as the direct replacement for Asger Sørensen, who left for FC Copenhagen and tore a hole straight through Sparta’s back line.
From PSG’s star-studded dressing room to Prague
Mbe Soh’s path has never been straightforward. Now 25, he came through the academy at Paris Saint-Germain and made his Ligue 1 debut at just 17, thrown into a senior squad stacked with heavyweight names. That first appearance, against Angers in May 2019, put him alongside Marquinhos, Gianluigi Buffon, Dani Alves, Ángel Di María, Marco Verratti and Neymar.
Inside PSG’s youth ranks he carried the nickname “Monstro 2.0,” a nod to former captain Thiago Silva. The label hinted at expectation, at a future anchoring a defence at the very top level. The reality was harsher. Loan spells followed, and in January 2024 he moved to Saint-Truiden seeking minutes and stability rather than glamour.
He found regular football in Belgium’s top flight. Not the global spotlight of Paris, but a league that hardens defenders and exposes weaknesses quickly. Four seasons of that grind now sit on his CV.
Sparta get a ready-made leader, not a project
Sparta, the dominant force in Czech football and a regular presence in European competition, are not shopping for a prospect. They are replacing a starter. Losing Sørensen demanded a plug-and-play solution, not a long-term experiment.
Mbe Soh fits that brief. He arrives with senior Ligue 1 experience, years of top-flight Belgian football and the profile of a player entering his prime rather than learning the trade. For Sparta, he is a ready-made option, a centre back expected to step straight into the rotation and compete for a starting role in domestic and European matches.
The move also offers the defender something he has been chasing since leaving PSG: momentum. A stable, ambitious club, trophies on the line, European nights on the calendar. If “Monstro 2.0” is going to live up to the nickname, this is the kind of stage he needs.
Smart business for Saint-Truiden
On the other side of the deal, Saint-Truiden can hardly complain. Offloading a 25-year-old squad player for around €3 million represents solid business for a club built on developing talent and moving it on at the right time.
He was not central to long-term planning there. The sale frees up both a squad place and financial room for the Belgians to continue their usual cycle of recruiting, polishing and selling.
Only signatures and scans left
According to the Czech reports, personal terms between Sparta and Mbe Soh are agreed, the fee is settled between the clubs, and the defender is in Prague for his medical. At this point, only the final signature and medical clearance stand between Sparta and the official unveiling.
If all goes to plan, the Czech champions will have their Sørensen replacement within hours. Then the real question begins: can “Monstro 2.0” finally become the dominant centre back his early years promised, this time in Sparta red?
