Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt After Leaving Liverpool
Liverpool have agreed a permanent deal for midfielder Sofie Lundgaard to join Eintracht Frankfurt, drawing a line under an injury-ravaged chapter on Merseyside.
The 24-year-old departs for the Frauen-Bundesliga side for an undisclosed fee after 42 appearances in red, a tally that tells only part of the story. She arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 with promise and pedigree, but two anterior cruciate ligament injuries across her three-and-a-half years at the club repeatedly stalled her momentum and restricted her minutes.
Those setbacks shaped her time in England. When fit, Lundgaard offered energy and control in midfield, yet long stretches on the sidelines meant she never truly built a sustained run in the side. Now she heads to Frankfurt looking for exactly that: continuity, rhythm, a fresh start.
The move also returns her to continental competition, having previously featured for Danish club Fortuna Hjorring before her switch to Liverpool. For Frankfurt, it is a calculated bet on a player whose ceiling remains high if she can stay clear of further serious injury.
Birmingham knocked back in Fatou Kanteh chase
While Lundgaard heads to Germany, a separate transfer line has hit a dead end in Spain.
Birmingham City have seen a bid rejected by Sevilla for Gambia winger Fatou Kanteh, with the Spanish club making it clear they do not intend to sell. The Women’s Super League side are understood to have tabled an offer in the region of 100,000 euros (£85,000), but Sevilla value the 29-year-old significantly higher.
The message from Spain has been firm enough that Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved proposal.
Kanteh has built her entire senior career in Liga F, currently standing on 12 goals in 63 games for Sevilla. Before that, she represented Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono, steadily carving out a reputation as a reliable wide threat.
For now, she stays where she is. Birmingham will have to look elsewhere, while Sevilla hold on to a key attacking piece as the window tightens and options begin to narrow.
