Sevilla Targets Ellyes Skhiri as Transfer Window Closes
Sevilla are juggling plates as the transfer window ticks into its final stretch, and Ellyes Skhiri has suddenly moved onto their radar.
The Tunisian international, currently at Eintracht Frankfurt, is being pushed towards the exit door with just a year left on his contract. Frankfurt have already reinforced the middle of the pitch with Rafael Onyedika and, according to Sky Sport Germany, have effectively frozen Skhiri out as they look to slim down the squad before his deal runs down.
For Sevilla, this is an opportunity – but not the only one they’re chasing.
Striker hunt takes centre stage
In Andalusia, the headline priority remains clear: a striker. Spanish outlet Marca report that Sevilla are still working on several fronts, with an out-and-out No. 9 top of the list. Negotiations continue for Ruben Vargas as the club scrambles to inject goals into a side that struggled badly in front of goal last season.
While the search for a finisher dominates internal discussions, Sevilla’s recruitment team have not limited themselves to one area of the pitch. Other profiles are being tracked to plug gaps and deepen the squad, and that is where Skhiri’s name has come into play.
Skhiri as part of a broader midfield reshuffle
German reports link Sevilla with a move for Skhiri, who now looks a genuine candidate to leave Frankfurt before his contract expires at the end of next season. The Bundesliga club’s stance is clear: they would rather cash in now than lose him for nothing.
Sevilla, for their part, are already in talks to bring in Giorgi Kochorashvili for the midfield. Skhiri is viewed as a complementary piece to that move, a player who could add experience and balance rather than being the single, marquee solution.
At 29 and with World Cup experience under his belt – he played all three of Tunisia’s group-stage matches at the last tournament – Skhiri offers reliability in a zone of the pitch where Sevilla have often lurched between instability and improvisation.
Clock ticking towards La Liga kick-off
The urgency grows by the day. Sevilla open their league campaign in just eight days, at home to Rayo Vallecano at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Every hour without reinforcements is an hour coach Garcia Plaza cannot spend moulding a settled side.
Before that, there is one final dress rehearsal: a friendly against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany tomorrow at 3:30pm. It will be the last chance to fine-tune what he has – and a stark reminder of what he still lacks.
The question now is whether Sevilla can move quickly enough. Can they land the striker they crave and still prise Skhiri out of Frankfurt in time for him to matter when the season starts, or will this late-window gamble leave them short when the lights go on in Seville?
