Sevilla Targets Chelsea Striker Guiu for Attack Rebuild
Sevilla’s search for one last piece in their new-look forward line has led them firmly back to Chelsea striker Guiu, with the 20-year-old now a priority target for the Andalusian club, according to Mundo Deportivo.
They have already moved once in the market, bringing in Scottish striker Robbie Ure to freshen up the attack. That signing alone is not enough. Inside the club there is a clear message: one more natural finisher must arrive before the window shuts.
Head coach Luis Garcia and sporting director Jose Ignacio Navarro are aligned on that point. Both see the addition of a third centre-forward as essential, not a luxury. If Sevilla can strike a deal, Guiu would be thrown straight into competition with Ure and Isaac Romero for a starting role.
A forward line stripped bare
The urgency has roots in a turbulent summer at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Sevilla have lost almost their entire attacking spine.
Top scorer and attacking reference Akor Adams has gone, sold to Venezia in Italy. Around him, experience has drained away as well: Alexis Sanchez and Neal Maupay have both departed during this window, ripping out depth and know-how from the front line.
The result is a squad light on options in the final third, staring at a long, demanding domestic campaign with only a partially rebuilt strike force. Hence the push for Guiu.
From Ilenikhena to Guiu
The plan initially looked different. Sevilla first tried to secure a loan for highly rated Nigerian forward George Ilenikhena. That avenue closed almost as quickly as it opened.
Ilenikhena hit two spectacular goals for Al Ittihad, boosting his stock and making any deal far more complicated. With that door effectively slammed shut, Sevilla circled back to a name that had already been on their list since the very start of the summer: Guiu.
According to Spanish outlet Abc, Sevilla have now formally reactivated their pursuit of the former Barcelona academy striker and are working on a loan as the preferred formula. For a club managing a tight budget while trying to overhaul its attack, a temporary move ticks the right financial boxes.
Frozen out at Chelsea
Guiu’s situation at Stamford Bridge has deteriorated quickly. Chelsea have made their stance brutally clear by leaving the young forward without a squad number for the current season, a decision that has pushed his camp into action as they hunt for a new destination.
This is his second year in English football after a high-profile switch from Catalonia. He has featured 29 times for Chelsea, scoring eight goals, most of them during the club’s victorious 2025 Conference League run, where he offered flashes of the penalty-box instinct that first drew attention in Spain.
His only spell away from west London so far, a short loan at Championship side Sunderland, brought just one goal in three appearances. He returned to Chelsea but has found no clear pathway into the first team.
A way back to La Liga
On paper, Chelsea still hold the cards: Guiu has three full years left on his contract. On the ground, the reality is different. With no squad number and no obvious role in the current project, a swift exit now feels inevitable.
Sevilla believe they can turn that stalemate into opportunity. A loan back to Spain, into a team desperate for goals and minutes to share, could give Guiu the platform he needs to restart a career that once promised so much.
For Sevilla, still piecing together an attack after a summer exodus, the question is simple: can this be the young striker who anchors their next forward line, or just another stopgap in a position that has already seen too much upheaval?
