As Serie A edges toward kick-off and FIFA’s 10-match ban for Leandro Paredes sends a jolt through the headlines, Italy’s transfer market is hitting its wildest stretch. Phones don’t stop ringing, agents don’t stop talking, and several of the country’s biggest clubs are still juggling crucial decisions.
Juventus and the Musso chase
Juventus are back in the market for a goalkeeper. With Michele Di Gregorio close to joining Bournemouth and Mattia Perin seemingly on his way to Palermo, the club need a reliable backup behind Guglielmo Vicario.
One of the names high on their list is Juan Musso. That interest, reported by Tuttosport, comes with a problem: Napoli.
The Italian champions are pushing hard for the Atlético Madrid keeper and, according to Fabrizio Romano, have already convinced Musso himself. Napoli are working on a swap deal that would see Vanja Milinkovic-Savic move the other way and Musso land in Campania. If that operation goes through, Juventus will be forced to rethink their entire goalkeeping plan in the final days of the window.
Milan freeze out four
At Milan, the break with several players is no longer whispered in corridors; it’s written in black and red. The club have officially published the squad numbers for the new season, and four names are missing.
Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana, Gimenez and Nkunku have all been left without a shirt number, even though the league starts this weekend. The message is blunt. Without a number, there is no space. Their exits now look like a matter of timing rather than intention, as Milan prepare to move on without them.
Inter, Pavard convinces while Bovio waits
Across the city, Inter appear increasingly set on keeping Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman has been ticking every box under Cristian Chivu, who didn’t hide his satisfaction in his press conference: “He's doing a great job, he has made himself available to the group. He has played matches at a certain level.”
Those are not the words of a coach ready to lose a defender.
At the same time, the club have confirmed the contract renewal of Bovio. Romano reports that the plan is for him to remain with the Nerazzurri, but nothing is completely sealed in late August. If an unexpected opportunity arrives in the final hours of the window, his situation could still be revisited.
Napoli close Obaretin deal
Napoli, busy on several fronts, have wrapped up another outgoing move. As reported by Alfredo Pedullà and Fabrizio Romano, the club have completed the transfer of Obaretin to Lorient.
The defender heads to France on loan with an option to buy set at €3.5 million, plus a percentage of any future sale. Napoli beat competition from Sturm Graz to secure the agreement, after the player had also been linked with Genoa in July. It’s a deal that brings immediate flexibility to Napoli’s books and keeps a potential upside on the table.
Roma hit financial wall on Fofana and Luis Henrique
Roma’s ambitions keep colliding with their balance sheet. According to Il Tempo, the club came very close to landing Fofana, with a €35 million package plus bonuses on the table. Then the brakes went on.
The ownership reportedly blocked the move, wary of the immediate financial outlay after the investment in Rodrigo Mora and mindful of the club’s overall economic position. The same constraints are affecting other targets.
Il Messaggero reports that Luis Henrique is also appreciated in Trigoria, but Roma have yet to find an agreement on the structure of the deal. The interest is there. The money, for now, is not.
Lazio ready to trust Mandas
Lazio look set to take a different path in goal. With Ivan Provedel gone, the club intend to hand the gloves to Christos Mandas as their first-choice goalkeeper, according to Corriere dello Sport.
That stance cools the talk of Mandas joining Juventus as a backup to Vicario, a profile the Bianconeri have been following. For Lazio, though, Mandas is no longer a prospect to park on the bench. He is the man they want to build around between the posts.
Fiorentina, Kean sale on hold until upgrade found
In Florence, Fiorentina’s attack is on a knife edge. Moise Kean could move to Como, but only on one condition: he must be replaced by someone at least as strong, if not better.
As reported by FirenzeViola, the club are actively searching for that replacement. Fabio Paratici has drawn a clear line. He does not want to bring in a striker of a lower level than Kean. The idea is to raise the bar once more, just as they have tried to do across the rest of the squad during this window.
So Kean waits. Fiorentina wait. And with the season about to start and the market entering its final sprint, one decisive phone call could still redraw the attacking hierarchy in purple.
