Kick-off is set for 17:30 on 5 September 2026. The gulf between the sides is already clear in the table: Bayern sit at the summit, Schalke down in 17th. The mood music could hardly be more contrasting.
Schalke short-handed and searching for belief
Schalke stumble into this fixture with bodies missing and confidence shaken.
Bryan Lasme, Adrian Gantenbein and Kenan Karaman are all out injured. Ron Schallenberg is suspended. That strips muscle from a squad already stretched by a rough start to the campaign.

They claimed the Super Cup with a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. Their most recent outing was a 4-1 DFB-Pokal victory at Osnabrück on September 2. Every competition, same outcome: Bayern score, Bayern win.
A brutal head-to-head history
If Schalke are looking for comfort in the recent history between these clubs, they will not find it.
The last meeting ended in a 6-0 Bayern win in May 2023 in the Bundesliga. It was not an outlier. Across the last five clashes, Bayern have won all five, scoring 21 goals and conceding none. Schalke have failed to find the net in any of those games.
The margins have often been brutal. An 8-0 Bayern victory in September 2020 still lingers as a symbol of the gap between the sides.
A test of character for Schalke
So the picture is stark. Schalke, bruised and short-handed, trying to steady themselves after a 3-0 league defeat and a string of heavy losses against elite opposition. Bayern, relentless and free-scoring, already setting the pace at the top of the table.
