Safia Middleton-Patel Joins Watford for 2026-27 Season
Safia Middleton-Patel will spend the entire 2026-27 season with Watford after sealing a loan move from Manchester United.
The Wales international returns to Vicarage Road after a productive spell in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, this time committing to a full season as the Hornets prepare for life in Women's Super League 2.
At 21, Middleton-Patel is still at the start of her senior journey, but her CV already carries some heavyweight moments. She made her first-team debut for United against Newcastle United in December 2024, a landmark outing for the academy product.
She went on to make three appearances under Marc Skinner last season, including a standout night at Old Trafford as United beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Those minutes, under the glare of European competition, have sharpened her reputation as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the British game.
United underlined that sense of expectation in a brief statement confirming the deal, saying: "We will be tracking Saf's progress closely and wish her the very best of luck."
Now comes the real test: a full league campaign as Watford’s last line of defence, with Manchester United watching every step.
