Roma Closing In on €50m Rodrigo Mora Deal

What looked like a transfer stuck in mud for weeks has suddenly lurched forward. Roma and FC Porto have reworked the structure of the Rodrigo Mora deal and are now closing in on an agreement that could reach €50m in total.

The two clubs had been locked in talks for some time, arguing not over the overall valuation, but over how and when the money would be paid. The package has always hovered around €50m. The problem was the route, not the destination.

Initially, they appeared to have found common ground on a loan: €10m up front, with an option to buy for another €40m that would turn into an obligation if certain conditions were triggered. That is where everything stalled.

Porto pushed for those conditions to be little more than a formality, effectively guaranteeing the obligation to buy. Roma resisted and tried to tie the obligation to sporting results, such as Champions League qualification or even winning the Scudetto. The gap between those positions froze the talks.

Now the structure has changed – and the logjam has broken.

Multiple sources in Italy and Portugal report that Roma are ready to buy 50 per cent of Mora’s contract for €25m. At the end of the season, they will hold an option to purchase the remaining 50 per cent from Porto for another €25m.

If Roma decide not to trigger that second payment, Porto will keep their 50 per cent stake and retain half of any future transfer fee when Mora is eventually sold on. It is a compromise that protects Porto’s long‑term interests while lowering Roma’s immediate risk.

The urgency is clear. Mora is not in coach Francesco Farioli’s plans at Porto, and both clubs want the situation resolved quickly. With the new terms on the table and the framework finally agreed, Roma and Porto are now racing to wrap up the deal in the coming days.

If they do, Roma will land a major attacking investment – and Porto will bank a significant fee without completely cutting ties to one of their most valuable assets.
